Summer Time 8

Five heavy orange drips run down from the top edge, each ending in a swollen drop, over a field crowded with pink, blue and cream crosshatch lines. Slashes of red and strips of yellow cut diagonally across, and soft lilac and aqua blobs sit on the paint like beads. Beneath, the surface looks woven, with the net of fine lines showing through dark blue and gold. Colour is dense and saturated, the gestures quick and layered, and the whole thing carries the heat of a bright summer day. Summer Time 8 — an original acrylic on canvas by Veronica Ruiz de Velasco.
