San Carlos

A robed figure bends in three-quarter profile, rendered in loose sepia linework against a ground of deep forest green and blue — a curling, ribbon-like band crosses the head like a woven crown, and a full beard is sketched in the same quick, calligraphic hand. A large white bird floats just beside the bowed face, its beak nearly touching the figure's beard, wings caught mid-lift in thick, sculptural strokes of unmixed white. The drawing feels devotional in spirit — hushed, reverent — though the surrounding foliage is left loose and unresolved, more mood than setting.
