Thinking in blue — by Veronica Ruiz de Velasco: stacked horizontal palette-knife bands of cobalt blue and gold suggesting light on water

Thinking in blue

Horizontal strokes of deep cobalt and marigold gold stack the length of the canvas like light breaking across moving water, each band laid on thick with a palette knife so the paint itself catches the light. The blue runs from near-black indigo to a bright cerulean, the gold from burnt amber to a warm, buttery yellow, and the two colors never fully merge — they run parallel, streaked and layered, giving the surface a rippling, almost photographic sense of motion. In the lower right corner the artist's signature is worked directly into the impasto in the same gold, as much a mark of paint as a name. It is a painting built entirely on the friction between two colors and the texture of how they were applied. Thinking in blue — an original work by Veronica Ruiz de Velasco. Authenticity & Terms.
