Two figures, again and again. Romeo and Juliet, Napoleon and Josephine, and many more who are simply Novios — lovers with no names at all. Veronica Ruiz de Velasco paints them entwined to the point of abstraction, bodies reduced to line and heat, so what reads first is not who they are but that they are holding on. The earliest here was painted in Mexico City in 1985.
